The extremely large United States flag that flew over McCall Hill at Guantanamo Bay Naval Station in Cuba from 7/29-8/14/2016 proudly hung over the Bridgeland Festival Park Pavilion on 11/6/2022 during the Bridgeland Veterans Day Festival.
The Flag was obtained by Bridgeland resident Captain William S. Fedor, CAPT, U.S. Navy, who was Director of Commissions Liaison Office in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Captain Fedor provided the flag to The Bridgeland Community Supports Veterans, Inc to be auctioned at its gala. Bridgeland resident Walt Bohn bought the flag to be flown in memory of all who have served in the United States Armed Forces defending freedom and democracy. Walt said the flag has historical significance as well because it was flown during pre-trial hearings of the terrorists who masterminded the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center.
The Bridgeland Veterans Day Festival held annually recognizes veterans thru its photographic display of Bridgeland Veterans, its Honor Wall, a speech, & a ceremonial reading of the names of service men & women from the Bridgeland Community. Because Veterans Day is a family celebratory event, bouncy houses, basketball toss, slides, badminton, croquet, InterConnect4, and bean bag toss games are provided. Fresh warm cotton candy along with other candy were given to everyone to enjoy while listening to a phenomenal band.
Thank you to all the volunteers, those dedicated folks who gave selflessly to the Bridgeland Community Supports Veterans, Inc. and created a wonderful event honoring Veterans in Bridgeland.
