On Memorial Day, The Bridgeland Community Supports Veterans, Inc. (TBCSVI) held its annual remembrance ceremony at the Lakeland Activity Center to honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country. A flag flown over McCalla Hill in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, from July 29 through October 14, 2016, was displayed in memory of all who have served in defense of freedom and democracy. Emilio Rodriguez led the ceremony, with prayers, remembrance, and a moving performance of Taps played by Mike McCurry. Ribbons bearing the names of fallen loved ones were tied around trees in the park as a visual tribute.
A display of the plans for the upcoming Bridgeland Veterans Memorial was also shared with attendees, offering a preview of how we will continue to honor local heroes in the future. The event served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made and the importance of community remembrance.
We are especially grateful to the Scouts from Pack 329 and Troops 156 & 329 for their help with the ceremony, flag presentation, setup, and cleanup. Their support and respect added meaning and dignity to the day.

Join us for the Fun Run/Walk for Heroes, our main fundraiser and community participation. We start the race with the playing of our National Anthem, then the runners run. The kids and walkers start later for safety. The run is held within the Bridgeland community and normally around 150 runners participate.

We have it at the Pioneer Park at 11am on Memorial Day. The colors are presented by the JROTC of Bridgeland HS or our local cub scouts. We have a short talk about Memorial Day and then the audience begins to recognize their fallen heroes they are there to honor. Taps are played and then memorial ribbons are tied around the trees in the park. This is a very moving ceremony with many tears being shed.
